Full LOLER DetailsIndustrial environments present unique challenges that conventional access methods struggle to meet. Scaffolding is time-consuming and costly to erect. Mobile elevated work platforms (MEWPs) are restricted by ground conditions, overhead clearances, and structural limitations. Rope access, deployed by IRATA-certified technicians, provides a versatile, cost-effective alternative that can be mobilised rapidly and adapted to virtually any industrial scenario.
MaD-ACCESS operates across the full spectrum of industrial site management tasks. Our teams routinely carry out visual and non-destructive testing (NDT) inspections of structural steelwork, concrete, and pipework at height. We perform surface preparation, coating application, and corrosion treatment on structures where access is typically prohibitive — from elevated tank exteriors and flare stacks to bridge soffits and overhead gantries.
We understand that industrial sites operate to tight schedules. Plant shutdowns represent significant financial cost, and extended access scaffolding can delay recommissioning. Rope access mobilisation is typically faster, requires fewer personnel for access setup, and leaves a smaller footprint on your site — meaning less disruption to ongoing operations. Our teams can be on-site within 24 hours of instruction for planned works, and we operate an emergency response service for urgent requirements.
Every MaD-ACCESS project begins with a thorough site survey and the preparation of detailed method statements and risk assessments. These are reviewed by our competent person before any work commences. We liaise directly with your site safety team to ensure our operations integrate seamlessly with your permit-to-work systems, site rules, and emergency procedures. On completion, we provide full photographic records and written reports as standard.
Uncontrolled vegetation on embankments, cliff faces, bridge abutments, retaining walls, and steep slopes poses a serious risk to structural integrity and public safety. Root systems penetrate masonry and concrete, accelerating deterioration. Overhanging vegetation obscures inspection access, masks defects, and creates significant weight loading on structures. Where these environments are inaccessible to conventional plant or machinery, rope access devegetation is the only safe and practical solution.
MaD-ACCESS operatives are trained in both rope access techniques and vegetation management, allowing our teams to work safely in environments that would otherwise require expensive and disruptive access infrastructure. Working from rope, we can clear vegetation on gradients that no machinery can reach — including vertical rock faces, bridge soffits, steep railway embankments, and flood defence walls. Our teams work efficiently even in confined or restricted access environments.
Our devegetation service covers full clearance, selective removal, stump treatment to prevent regrowth, and debris management. Where required, we can also apply herbicide treatment to treated surfaces to suppress regrowth and extend the maintenance cycle. All operations are carried out in accordance with environmental regulations, and we hold the necessary environmental certifications for the application of approved herbicides where required. Waste vegetation is removed from site and disposed of appropriately.
Following devegetation, our teams are ideally placed to carry out follow-up structural inspection of the now-exposed surfaces, providing a comprehensive photographic record and condition report. This integrated approach — clearance and inspection in a single mobilisation — delivers exceptional value and significantly reduces the overall project cost compared to commissioning separate contractors for access, clearance, and inspection.
The Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) impose a legal duty on employers to ensure that all lifting equipment — including the fall protection and rope access equipment used in working-at-height operations — is thoroughly examined at specified intervals by a competent person. Failure to comply is a criminal offence and exposes organisations to significant liability in the event of an incident. MaD-ACCESS provides a fully compliant LOLER inspection and certification service delivered by our dedicated competent persons.
Our inspection teams examine equipment systematically against manufacturer specifications, current British Standards, and LOLER requirements. We assess each item for wear, deformation, chemical degradation, UV damage, heat damage, impact damage, and any other defects that could compromise its safe working load or integrity. Items that fail examination are immediately withdrawn from service and clearly tagged, with full written documentation provided. Items that pass are certified with the date of examination, next examination date, and the signature of our competent person.
We inspect the full range of equipment used in rope access and fall protection operations: harnesses, energy-absorbing lanyards, inertia reels, fall arrest blocks, rope grabs, descenders, ascenders, pulleys, karabiners and connectors, ropes (work and safety lines), anchor slings, edge protection systems, and anchor point hardware. We also inspect lifting accessories such as shackles, swivels, wire rope slings, and textile lifting slings where required.
Following each inspection visit, MaD-ACCESS provides a comprehensive written report detailing every item inspected, its condition, the outcome of the examination, and any recommendations for repair, retirement, or further investigation. Our documentation is structured to provide a complete audit trail that satisfies HSE inspection requirements and demonstrates due diligence in your safety management system. We also offer equipment register management, helping you track inspection dates and anticipate upcoming examination requirements.
